INSiGHT CLA Scanning Technology in Eldersburg

The INSiGHT scanning technology is a completely harmless instrument that allows us to see how the nervous system is sensing its internal and external environment in real time. These scans are 100% safe, and we perform them on newborns, children, mothers, pregnant mothers, and many other people all the time in our office.

Everyone who starts care at FLC will receive a scan at their Day 1 visit as well as follow-up scans throughout their care plan. This allows us to see the current state of their nervous system, track their objective changes, and connect the dots between their nervous system and certain symptoms, behaviors, or challenges they are experiencing. At FLC, scans dictate the plans!

HRV Scan

Heart rate variability (HRV) is one of the most popular scans used to measure the balance of the autonomic nervous system. This is the first scan we perform at FLC, and we use it to assess multiple aspects of your nervous system. This scan tells us the balance between your Sympathetic Nervous System (Gas Pedal) and Parasympathetic Nervous System (Brake Pedal / Vagus Nerve) as well as the average “battery level” of your nervous system similar to your phone battery.

Nervous systems that are out of balance, working with low energy levels, or both are much more likely to become dysregulated because they are lacking resiliency and are working with lower adaptability levels. By tracking your HRV, we can see the changes in your nervous system’s ability to adapt by balancing the Gas and Brake Pedals, and over the long term, we can track the rises in energy levels as the nervous system accumulates more resources to use in everyday life.

How is it performed?

We perform this scan by placing your hand on the device and asking you to sit still for 3 minutes. We also have the ability to perform the scan using an ear clip in the case of small children. For children who have difficulty sitting still, we offer a toy to play with, parents can provide entertainment, or parents can choose to hold their child (while using the ear clip) as well during the scan.

Neuro-Thermal Scan

The neuro-thermal scan is the second scan performed at FLC, and it allows us to see where the brain and body are disconnected. This scan is very effective at evaluating the function of body systems such as glands, organs, and endocrine function. Significant or multiple disconnects between the brain and body can lead to many functional impairments, especially in cases that concern hormonal function, gut health, and even the immune system.

Nevertheless, the neuro-thermal scan also provides us the ability to see how chronic your neurological stress has been which can reveal deeper patterns of nervous system dysfunction that you may or may not have been aware of. Improvements in the neuro-thermal scan can be consistent with reports like, but not limited to, better digestion, more regular bowel movements, mood stabilization, and improved immune function.

How is it performed?

We perform this scan by rolling the device from your waistband all the way to the base of your skull. During this rolling scan, the instrument is collecting temperature data along the entirety of the neuro-spinal system. It is the fastest scan we perform, and most children report that the device tickles as it travels up their back. For kids who have difficulty sitting still, we offer a toy to play with, parents can provide entertainment, or children can sit in their parent’s lap as well during the scan.

Neuro-Muscular Scan

The EMG (electromyography) scan is the third and final scan performed at FLC, and it allows us to view the activity of the neuro-muscular system. Muscles do not activate unless the nervous system signals them to. Therefore, overactive muscles can lead us to areas of overactive nerves. Vice versa, if you have an area of the nervous system that is overactive, you therefore will have an area of the nervous system that is underactive. It is important that all areas of the nervous system participate equally so that a child, or adult, can establish proper regulation.

This scan is very effective at revealing areas of stuck stress and tension that the nervous system is not properly processing. Nevertheless, there are numbers provided by this scan that can tell us if the nervous system is favoring the Gas Pedal (Sympathetic Nervous System) or the Brake Pedal (Parasympathetic Nervous System / Vagus Nerve). We are also able to grade the organization of the nervous system, and oftentimes low organization scores can be correlated to symptoms / behaviors such as focus challenges, hyperactivity, gut complaints, emotional meltdowns, lack of body coordination, motor delays, sensory overload, and many others.

How is it performed?

We perform this scan by placing the sensors at different levels of the neuro-spinal system. Not every neuro-spinal segment will be evaluated, and we can change how many segments we want to scan. Once the instrument has a good connection with the current neuro-spinal segment, the scan is captured with a simple button press. It is important that kids sit still during the scan, so we may offer a child a toy to play with, parents can provide entertainment, or the child can sit on the parent’s lap. In the instance that a child refuses to sit still, we scan as much as we can and wait until later times in the care plan to get better scans.

See What Your Nervous System Is Telling Us

At FLC, our scans give us — and you — a clear, objective picture of where your nervous system stands and how it’s changing over time. Whether you’re bringing in a newborn, a toddler, or yourself, our INSiGHT scans are safe, fast, and designed for everyone.
